An important sword by Higo Kanehiro, a very skilled modern day swordsmith working in Japan. He is of the Kimura family who are active in Kumamoto prefecture. They scored two awards during the 2005 sword forging shinsakuto competition (see swords no. 30 & 36).

A sword by Kanehiro (which is very similar to this one) is featured in the Dai Token Ichi 2004 catalog. (see sword number 152).

Wood Shirasaya

This sword exhibits a very fine and tight jihada with a very active choji temper. There are no flaws. It is an excellent example of Kanehiro's skill. The cutting edge measures 30 inches long.  It comes with wood shirasaya and sword bag.

Moto kasane: 0.7 cm
 
Saki kasane:  0.5 cm

Signed "Higo Kuni Ju Akamatsu Taro Kanehiro" and dated year of the monkey. 

This sword was made as a copy of the Shinshinto smith Kiyomaru' work. Note the large proportions and o-kisaki.
